August 3, 2016
Dear Noddin Families,
I am thrilled and honored to be joining you as principal of Noddin Elementary! The teachers, office staff, and I look forward to welcoming you to the 2016 – 17 school year. As a twelve-year veteran of the Union School District, I am familiar with Noddin Elementary’s fantastic community, dedicated teachers, and amazing students!
As I look toward this school year, and as I reflect on my own time in elementary school, there are three principles that come to mind: safety, learning, and fun! These are three things that I plan to focus on this year at Noddin.
Student safety is extremely important in and of itself, however the other two principles cannot occur without it. Students need to feel physically and emotionally safe in order to successfully learn and have fun. Safety education, programs, and personnel are all being examined in order to meet the goal of safety.
Learning goals at Noddin Elementary and Union School District continue to focus on rigorous Common Core instruction, technology integration, and best teaching practices. This will be our first year with our newly adopted math curriculum, Eureka Math. Teacher leaders participated in trainings over the summer and they, along with all teachers, will continue to receive professional development over the course of the school year. This school year, Union School District will be piloting English/Language Arts curriculums in select classrooms. ELA teacher leaders and committees will review, pilot, and evaluate these programs to find the best fit to meet the needs of all students.
The idea of fun at school should not be confused with lower academic standards or achievement. In fact, kids have “fun” at school when they are engaged, intellectually stimulated, and challenged. Additionally, it is my goal to enhance recreational and sports activities, promote the arts, and continue the student involvement and leadership opportunities for our students.
I am a firm believer that a school is successful when the school and parent community form a partnership to meet the needs of students. I plan to facilitate this partnership and work closely with you and the Noddin staff to ensure that this happens. I also want you to know that I am available to you should you ever have a question, concern, or feedback you want to share. Never hesitate to contact me in person, by e-mail, or phone. If I am truly not available, I will follow up with you soon.
Please continue to enjoy these last remaining days of summer and I look forward to welcoming you to an educational, fun, and exciting year! Please look below for important dates and times, bell schedule, class placement information, and other important dates as we kick off the school year!
