The Importance of Daily Attendance

Did you know that regular student attendance is an extremely important indicator for student success?  Please do all that you can to minimize how many days your student is out of school.  Of course, do not send your child if ill, but schedule vacations during our regularly scheduled off weeks.  Most importantly, your child will be the beneficiary of this consistent message that SCHOOL is the most important event in their lives! In addition, prompt arrival to school is equally important.  Make it a HABIT to get to school every day on time!

Remember that school begins promptly at 8:05 am for grades K(AM)-5 and 11:30 A.M. for afternoon kindergarteners.  Dismissal for grades 1-5 is 2:30pm except on Wednesday, when dismissal is at 1:05pm.  Dismissal for morning kindergarten is at 11:25 am and afternoon kindergarten is at 2:50 pm.

Parents may request an Independent Studies Contracts for students that are out of school for five consecutive days.  This request must be arranged, 2 weeks in advance, with the teacher so s/he may have adequate time to prepare the Independent Studies Packet. Once completed, the work shall be returned to the teacher for grading purposes.  Keep in mind that an Independent Studies Packet will never replace the actual experiences one gains from regular school attendance.  Please utilize Independent Studies Packets for emergencies only.

With the introduction of Common Core Standards, the classroom rigor and expectations have changed dramatically.  When students miss multiple days they miss new concepts.  We want all of our students to gain the skills and knowledge they will need to be successful in school, on assessments and in life.  Please get them to school every day and on time.
