April 2019

With Spring Break approaching, I want to wish everyone a restful week to spend with family and friends. Enjoy the sunshine (when it is out) and take the opportunity of the extended daylight and warmer months ahead to spend some time outdoors. There are so many great organizations and places to explore as April showers subside. Check out the links to parks and recreation departments and other community website resources below.

In Late April and May, our students in grades 3-8 will take the California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress (CAASPP) in English Language Arts and Mathematics, as well as Science for 5th and 8th graders. The CAASPP Assessments are one of the things used to measure the progress that our schools and district are making in educating all students. Parents will be sent additional information about the assessment in the coming weeks, and in the fall, parents will receive reports on their student’s specific progress.

As parents and guardians, you can absolutely support your child before and during CAASPP testing. Your student may have already experienced some of the Practice and Training Tests which can be found on the CDE’s CAASPP Web page at http://www.caaspp.org/practice-and-training. Parents can preview the kinds of questions that students will encounter on the tests and students can experience items that look and function like those found on the ELA, Math and Science assessments. To access the CAASPP practice tests, click on the green box, log in as a “guest,” choose a grade level and subject, and follow the prompts.

We appreciate your efforts to make sure your student is at school during testing, is well-rested and has a nutritious breakfast on the days your school will be starting CAASPP. Our district, our schools, our teachers and parents know that our students will do an excellent job in showing what they know!
