Dear Noddin Families,
It’s with great excitement that I welcome you to a new school year! The teachers, staff, and I are looking forward to welcoming all of our new and returning students and families and can’t wait to make the 2021 - 22 school year a special one for all.
The last 1 ½ years put everyone to the test and I want to once again thank the entire Noddin community of staff, students, and parents for their resilience and resolve. That said, we recognize the incredible toll this has taken on our students and children everywhere. With this in mind, at Noddin and across the Union School District, we’ll be placing an even greater emphasis on rigorous academic instruction and addressing the social-emotional and mental health needs of our students.
We know you have many questions regarding the start of the school year. Our management team is finalizing COVID protocols, safety measures, and other considerations. Yesterday, you should have received a message from the office of the Superintendent and you will also receive another letter from me next week. Kindergarten families will also receive a separate welcome letter tailored for their grade level. I did, however, want to get some general information over to you this week.
2020 - 21 will be an unforgettable year. We came together as a community and supported each other through incredibly challenging times. We also managed to make happy memories together via distance learning and in-person learning. Events such as the Scholastic Book Fair, virtual assemblies and field trips, art vistas, clay, and, at the end of the year, a few in-person celebrations and parties, proved how we could make the best out of the COVID Crisis. We found out just how resilient our children could be, and that grace, compassion and love went a long way!
This year will also bring unique opportunities and challenges. I am confident that together we will support each other in creating a safe, engaging and fun learning environment for our Noddin Roadrunners! Our staff cannot wait to meet and reunite with all of you!
We also have a new addition to our teaching staff this year! Joining our 3rd grade team is Ellen Curry. Ellen was a Noddin student teacher in the 2018 - 19 school year, then secured a 3rd grade position in San Jose Unified. We’re so excited to welcome her back to USD and the Noddin Elementary team!
The Noddin Elementary staff is truly special. They navigated last year with amazing professionalism, compassion, courage, strength, and empathy. While I’m sure they have been enjoying their summer, they are always thinking of Noddin students. We realize that everyone will be returning to school with different strengths and needs. We look forward to highlighting the successes and addressing individual needs.
The Noddin staff and I are excited to begin a year that more closely resembles school before campus closures and distance-learning. An example of this will be the re-launch of Noddin P.R.I.D.E., an acronym students learn which stands for:
Decisions (wise ones)
Students will receive training and instruction on what these terms mean for them at school and how they can show the expected behaviors in class, at lunch, and even before & after school!
Further below, you’ll find a list of important dates and times, the bell schedule, and class placement information. Kindergarten parents will also receive a separate welcome letter tailored for their grade-level and all parents will receive a 2nd letter with the latest protocols Union School District and Noddin Elementary will be following to keep everyone safe and healthy.
Please continue to enjoy these last remaining days of summer and I look forward to seeing everyone soon!
