Student Services

Each school uses the ALL process to assist the student and their family when students have
difficulty in school related affairs. The Student Study Team is comprised of school administration,
the student’s teacher, the parents, the student and other staff with knowledge of the student.
The SST team may assist in issues related to classwork, homework, attendance, school
adjustment or other matters.
Health Services

A District nurse and school Health Clerks assist with the record keeping of state and federal
mandated health and immunization records including but not limited to Tuberculosis screening,
immunizations, school entry health assessments, scoliosis screening, vision and hearing
screening, dental screenings. In addition, staff may administer medication to students on an
daily basis as prescribed through a physician.

The district contracts with community based organizations to provide counseling to students with
school adjustment issues.

Home Hospital Instruction

Students may at times require hospitalization for health reasons. Should hospitalization occur
and be required for a period of time, please notify your child’s school. The school district where
the hospital is located will provide instruction while your child is in the hospital.
At other times, students may have health related reasons that require they do not attend
school for a period of time. With a doctor’s order describing the condition, the length of time
the student needs to be on bed rest and any other significant information of your child’s non-
contagious medical disorder, a Home Instructor may be assigned to provide up to one hour
of daily instruction in the home. Contact your school principal if your child’s health condition
requires that he not be in attendance at school.
Section 504

Students with a physical or mental impairment which substantially limits one or more major life
activities may be eligible for accommodations or modifications under Section 504 Americans with
Disabilities Act. Contact the school principal for additional information.
Student Attendance Review Board SARB

California Education Code 48320 authorizes school districts to meet with students and their
family along with law enforcement and community resources to address individual student
attendance issues. Union and Cambrian School Districts participate in a joint SARB which
meets monthly. Participants include administrative representatives from the school districts, a
district nurse, a parent representative, a member of the San Jose Police Department and other
community agencies as necessary.
Suspension/Expulsion

administration may suspend or recommend expulsion. Your Parent Information Pamphlet
distributed at the beginning of the school year also provides a copy of this information. During
the period of suspension or expulsion, students are not to be on school property or in the
community.
